Best 5 Critical DevOps Security Challenges:-

Critical DevOps Security Challenges .When a company seeks to align with DevOps practices, it often encounters issues related to security conditions. This set of challenges is referred to as DevOps compliance challenges. DevOps supports IT infrastructure, making it more active, testable, visual, and on-demand. In the realm of digital transformation, DevOps ensures that all variations within the IT infrastructure, including the building and deployment of systems, stem from code stored in version control. This, in turn, enables traceability back to the version control.

DevOps contributes to business innovation by fostering the generation and recognition of new ideas. These ideas, although related to buzzwords and technology, encompass more than just that. In numerous organizations, altering the corporate culture proves to be a daunting task. DevOps revolutionizes the organization’s mindset, enabling the creation of products without the hindrance of committee meetings, red tape, bureaucracy, and the like.

What is DevOps Compliances?

DevOps compliance refers to the practices, policies, and processes implemented within DevOps to ensure that software development and IT operations adhere to regulatory, security, and organizational standards. It involves integrating compliance requirements into the DevOps workflow, ensuring that software systems meet legal, security, and business requirements throughout their lifecycle.

DevOps compliance consists of Implementing continuous monitoring practices to detect and address compliance issues in real-time, reducing the risk of non-compliance. It also include automated compliance check that means by utilizing automated tools to continuously monitor and verify compliance with regulatory and security standards during the development and deployment processes.

The core focus of DevOps revolves around the necessities of digital innovation. It operates to eliminate internal inefficiencies arising from both human resources and tools. While DevOps encompasses a variety of functions, organizations often encounter compliance challenges, some of which are outlined below:

  1. Instantaneous Changes: On many occasions, DevOps introduces immediate changes to code and deployments. Quick commerce delivery startup Dunzo, which already has been struggling to shore up fresh funds, has now told its employees that pending salaries for June and July would now be paid in November. The cash-strapped firm, which is backed by Reliance Retail, has delayed paying salaries on several occasions for these two months.

The startup had previously deferred the June and July salaries of over 50 per cent of its workforce of 1,000 to the first week of September. It also capped employee salaries at ~75,000, irrespective of their pay package.

The latest communication came from founder and chief executive Kabeer Biswas in an internal all-hands call on Friday.  He also warned employees of further layoffs in case the cashflow situation worsened, without giving further details. He, however, promised that the salary for September would be paid on time in the first week of October.

Dunzo, which is valued at $800 million in its last round, may also downsize its office space in Bengaluru and has recently let go of 500 employees to mitigate costs.

Since its inception in 2015, Dunzo has managed to secure approximately $500 million in funding from investors like Reliance, Google, Lightrock, Lightbox, Blume Ventures, and others. Reliance holds the largest stake in the company, with a substantial 25.8 percent ownership, while Google is the second-largest shareholder with around 19 percent ownership, as reported by Tracxn, a private markets data provider.

Dunzo’s financial challenges have reached a critical point, with the company facing legal notices from more than seven companies and vendors, totaling over ₹11 crore in claims. In response to these financial pressures, Dunzo has resorted to three rounds of layoffs over the past year, resulting in the reduction of over 500 jobs.

FinTech startup, CredRight, based in Hyderabad, has successfully raised approximately $9.7m, a combination of both equity and debt.

Leading the equity capital funding was the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, according to a report from Entrackr. They were accompanied by existing investors such as YourNest, Spearhead Capital, 9Unicorns, and Accion Venture Lab. On the debt capital front, the funding was generously provided by Blacksoil, Caspian Debt, RevX Capital, and Westen Capital.

The Hyderabad-based fintech, founded in 2016 by Neeraj Bansal and Vineet Jawa, aims to bridge the credit gap for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Tier-3 and 4 towns.

“We have served more than 5,000 nano enterprises, and this fundraise will help us expand our reach exponentially. Our phygital model, unique underwriting ability and deep understanding of nano enterprises helps us reach remote areas and provide meaningful loans whilst ensuring profitability,” said Bansal.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), only 10 per cent of MSMEs have access to formal finance. This lacuna is compounded by the limited ability of commercial banks and traditional lending institutions to extend their services to remote locations.

CredRight aims to connect lenders with small business owners and avert the latter’s dependence on high-interest moneylenders.

According to the company, nearly 63 million MSMEs in India face a credit shortfall of around $500 billion.

CredRight’s remarkable growth over the past three years, experiencing a 10x increase in its assets under management (AUM), exemplifies its impact. The company is now aiming for an AUM of INR 2,000 crore over the next three years.

Previously,in September 2021, CredRight had another financial win by raising $2.7m in an investment round, led predominantly by 9Unicorns amongst others.

The internet and social media is recently flooded by the news of internal layoffs announced by networking giant Cisco Systems, as claimed by former and current Cisco employees .While the employees saw this as a fresh round of layoffs, Cisco said it was just enacting plans announced in November 2022.

“These recent notifications are part of the rebalancing effort we began in November 2022, which included a limited restructuring impacting our real estate portfolio and approximately 5% of our workforce,” a Cisco spokesperson said.

Last November, despite posting record quarterly revenue of $13.6 billion, Cisco announced it would be laying off around 5% of its 83,000 workers.

“Got to know that my name is in the layoff list through a known Senior Manager who was in a meeting with my Director and frankly speaking, it’s such a toxic and controlling environment and I personally don’t want to work in that team. Little stressed as the job market is very dull,” a sacked employee wrote.

Another user said software engineers are being impacted at the company.

According to verified Cisco employees on anonymous professional community forum Blind, some business units allegedly affected are Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI), Cisco Collaboration, Cisco Data Center Services & Solutions, Cisco Experience Centers (CxC), Cisco Security Business Group (SBG) Cisco Servers and Webex.

Cisco’s last round of layoffs occured in January-23, when the company revealed that it was cutting 673 jobs in the San Francisco Bay Area as part of its plan to maximize cost savings announced in 2022. The company at the time eliminated 371 jobs at its San Jose location, 222 jobs in Milpitas and 80 in San Francisco, with the majority of the layoffs impacting software engineers, technical engineers, hardware engineers, product managers and supervisors, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications filed with the state of California in January.

The layoffs in November were part of a $600M restructuring plan. Cisco similarly implemented a restructuring plan in mid-2020 which included a substantial number of layoffs.
